What to Pack for a Family Beach Trip

There’s nothing more fun than packing up your car and heading to the beach with your family on a hot, summer day- right? Ok, let’s be real-there’s probably nothing more stressful. You not only have to make sure the kids are entertained for hours on end (“Mom, are we there yet?!”) and you also have to make sure you have everything you need so you can set your beach day up for success. Not sure how to make this happen? Read on to learn about some items you should pack!

Sunscreen

A waterproof, high SPF, spray on version (in bulk) is what you need to bring with you. Try buying it at Costco or Sam’s Club so there is plenty. This way, everyone can have fun without being as red as a lobster.

Quarters and Cash

This is an obvious one but a lot of people are so used to just carrying their credit and debit cards that they forget about good old fashioned quarters and dollars for parking. Be sure to get a few rolls of quarters and dollar bills before you head to the beach.

Cooler And Beach Bag In One

Many beach companies are getting into the spirt of designing multi-functional beach gear. A favorite among moms is the cooler beach bag. You can a mesh beach bag on top to carry all your essentials, and a zippered portion on the bottom, which is insulated. So, you can fill it up with drinks, snacks, and sandwiches, and it will stay nice and cool! Plus, it’s one less thing to carry! We love this one from Amazon.

Extra Quart anf Gallon Zip Lock Bags

While everyone knows the risks of brining their phones and camera’s to the beach, not everyone prepares with ziplock bags. Bring extra and don’t forget to put your phone and keys in the plastic bag!

Beach Chairs with Umbrellas

Beach chairs don’t have to be big and bulky, but they should keep you elevated off the sand, and offer ample shade when you need a break from the sun. Buy chairs that have built in umbrellas. They are compact, the umbrellas fold down easily, and there’s a size available for every member of your family.

Baby  Beach Tent

While baby beach tents aren’t totally necessary, once you use this one you will be hooked! It is also nice to bring a large family tent like this one to enjoy.

Wet Brush

Wet brushes are a favorite these days. Haven’t heard of them? You should give them a try. They are the best at getting out hair tangles. This one from Amazon is great. But you can also get these at your local CVS, Walgreen and most larger grocery stores.

Beach Toys

Kids love to get their hands in the sand. Keep them engaged with plenty of sand toys. In addition to the beloved favorites like the pail, shovel, and castle molds; why not pick up something new, like an ice cream scooper and cones to serve sand-cream? Or, you could put some food coloring in spray bottles, so your kids can actually add some color to their creations. If it keeps them busy then your mission has been accomplished!

Battery Operated Fan

When going to the beach with an infant or toddler it is especially important that they stay comfortable- and able to stay on their routine for their naps! Buy a fan like this one to accommodate your child.

Sand-proof Mat

Your family deserves a space to sprawl out and enjoy their lunch or some reading, without being covered in sand. Choose a mat that is sand resistant, meaning the sand rolls right off of it. These padded mats aren’t just easy to clean, but are ultra-comfortable and absorbent, so they actually double as towels if kiddos are damp from the ocean.

Cozy Beach Towels

Plan on a towel for every family member. And, a rule of thumb should be that if you can walk, you can carry your own towel. Some towels are designed with special carrying cases, straps, or that have zippered compartments, so you can keep your keys, phone, or money in it; eliminating a need for a purse. Some also have built in pillows for beach goers who love to sprawl out and soak up rays.

Dry Off Beach Towels

Didn’t see this one coming? Neither do most people. Pack a few extra towels for when you are wrapping up at the end of the day that won’t be all sandy.

Wipes and Paper Towels

Even if you don’t have an infant- wipes are a necessity for any parent (or person!) Wipes are great for before and after eating lunch on the beach. And you can never have too many paper towels!

Cornstarch

Cornstarch is fantastic way to get sand off of legs and bodies. Rub a little bit on the legs and feet, and the sand will wipe right off. Don’t forget- baby powder will work too!

These six items are essential for a successful beach day. There are tons of items waiting to be scooped up in stores and online that are not just easy to pack; but are also easy to carry. Be sure you check them out before embarking on your next beach vacay!
