Daddy's Donuts

Who would have thought donuts could be so easy to make?! This recipe is one of our favorites to make when the weather in Charlottesville turns chilly and our trees start to loose their leaves. Enjoy this sweet treat for a Saturday morning breakfast or a quick dessert when you are entertaining. These donuts are an instant crowd pleaser!

Ingredients

  • 1 can of Biscuits (any brand will work just not extra flakey biscuits)
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1½ Tablespoon Cinnamon
  • Vegetable Oil For Frying
  • 3/5 Cup Powdered Sugar
  1. Pour oil into pan to the depth of a little less than ½ an inch. Cook on medium to medium high for 5 minutes.
  2. In a medium bowl combine cinnamon and granulated sugar. Put the powdered sugar in a separate medium bowl.
  3. Using a plastic bottle cap or something similar cut the centers out of each biscuit to form donuts. (Tip-keep the center of the biscuits and roll them into balls to make donut holes!) Place the donuts in the hot oil, watching them carefully. Turn over when they are golden brown to cook the other side through. When both sides of the donuts are golden, place the donuts on a plate with folded paper towels to drain the excess oil.
  4. While still warm, place the donuts in either the powdered sugar bowl or the cinnamon sugar bowl. Dip both sides of the donut in the mixture. Serve warm.
