"I'm Bored" Jar Activities

A Solution to the Dreaded Phrase "I'm Bored!"

How often does your child say the dreaded three words, “Mom, I’m bored?” It may seem to always happen right when you sit down to check an e-mail or just try to take 10 minute break for yourself. These days, it is easy for parents to let their children watch tv or play a game on your iPad in these situations. And while screen time in moderation is okay, at Bright Beginnings we encourage our Mamas and Daddy’s choose a different road when it comes to screen time. An ‘I’m Bored Jar’ is a great alternative that will engage your children in an activity.

The idea behind the ‘I’m Bored Jar’ is to fill some sort of jar, bucket or box with ideas of activities that your child can do when they complain about being bored. You can fill your jar with popsicle sticks, tongue depressors or folded pieces of paper- it’s up to you!

We decided to go for activities your child can do alone when mommy and daddy are busy and things to do with mommy and daddy. We then colored the ends of the sticks to represent the specific categories we made up! The activities will obviously vary based on your child’s interest-but don’t be shy to throw in an activity that your child may not be interested in- this is a great way to open your family and child up to new activities and fun!
