Marshmallow Play Dough

Play Dough is an age old favorite sensory motor activity. You can squish it, pull it, smush it... you can roll it out and cut it with cookie cutters or mold it into your favorite animal... there really are no boundaries with it! But what if we told you that there is a play dough that exists that doesn't make your hands dry and cracked? What if we told you that there was a play dough recipe that is edible (albeit maybe not nutritious) and you could make it in the microwave lickety-split out of MARSHMALLOWS?! That's right we are so obsessed with this Marshmallow Play Dough recipe!

Ingredients

  • 6 Large Marshmallows
  • ¼ cup Corn Starch (slightly heaping)
  • 2 tsp coconut oil (slightly heaping)
  • 8 drops Liquid Food Coloring

**Makes one play dough ball

Directions

  1. In a large microwave safe bowl combine marshmallows, corn starch and coconut oil.
  2. Microwave on high for 30 seconds until the marshmallows expand.
  3. Parents Only! Add the food coloring drops on top of the marshmallows or coconut oil (not to the corn starch).
  4. Parents Only! Stir (rather quickly) with a small silver spoon to combine all the ingredients.
  5. Parents Only! When it gets too hard to stir, kneed the play dough by hand until the color and ingredients are thoroughly combined. (Careful, it might be hot!)
  6. If it's too sticky, add more corn starch. If it's still too sticky, add more coconut oil. Tip: Try covering your hands in coconut oil to keep it from sticking to you.
  7. Now the fun part! Have your child enjoy playing with it on a non stick surface, such as parchment paper, or wax paper taped to the table or a silicone baking mat.
