The Most Delicious Christmas Sugar Cookies

Hands down, the best part about the Christmas time is the memories we get to make with our loved ones. From decorating the house, to buying the perfect tree to wrapping gifts- it's a holiday that is treasured in the Petchel household! And making and decorating Christmas sugar cookies is a tradition that will never get old in our family! One thing we are never short on in our house is the amount of sprinkles we have (I think I counted 15 bottles in the pantry!) This year I decided to add the decorative sugar eye balls to the mix which ended up being super cute! Enjoy this activity with your little ones or older kiddos! If you have leftovers, freeze them to enjoy later in the year!

Sugar Cookie Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

Sugar Cookie Directions

  1. Mix together butter and sugar until blended.
  2. Add egg and vanilla to mixture.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together baking powder and flour.
  4. Slowly add dry mixture to butter mixture until fully mixed.
  5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to desired thickness.
  6. Cut out cookies with desired cookie cutters. Place on baking sheet and bake on 400° for 7-10 minutes. Let cool.

Icing Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons milk (add one teaspoon more if the icing is too thick)
  • 2 teaspoons light corn syrup
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red, green and blue food coloring

Icing Directions

  1. Mix the powdered sugar and milk until smooth
  2. Next, mix in corn syrup and vanilla until icing is smooth. (If the icing is too thick, add more corn syrup)
  3. Divide icing into different bowls and then stir in food coloring as desired.
  4. Now is the fun part! You can dip the cookies into the bowls, paint the icing on or use a dull knife to spread the icing on your cookies. Don't forget the sprinkles!
