Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream

Who doesn't love a nice scoop of creamy, cold ice cream in the summer? We do! Growing up my mom was always showing me how to make things from scratch in the kitchen. Whether it was sourdough bread, peanut butter, yogurt or even creamy butter- there was always a lesson in knowing how to make something yourself. Plus, with all of the extra ingredients added into our foods these days, there is something to be said for knowing exactly what is going into your body. Making this ice cream was so easy- and is fun to make with little ones too! All you need is an electric ice cream maker and the ingredients and you are set! Let your preschooler add fun toppings like sprinkles, chocolate syrup or you could go the healthier route and add fresh berries, shredded coconut or chia seeds on top! Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups organic whole milk (we used strawberry favored milk!)
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups mashed fresh strawberries

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine milk, heavy cream, cream, sugar, salt, vanilla, strawberries, and food coloring. Pour the mixture into the freezer bowl of an ice cream maker, and freeze according to manufacturer's directions.

Note: After our ice cream was done churning we put it into a freezer safe container and froze it overnight before enjoying the next day!
